Neglected Blog

Yeah, I know I haven't touched my blog in like two weeks. I've been busy elsewhere or just been too tired to put much thought into that week's entry. I will do my best to get back into posting here as often as I can. I've thought of making a new blog that's dedicated more to my writing than my views on the world.

Reality Shows Part Deux

Yes, I know I've covered reality shows before, but I've decided to cover a show or two that actually have some sort of impact on life. If you don't believe it like I do, then don't continue reading.

Now, the first show I wanna talk about is Dog the Bounty Hunter. Unlike the shows that I have mentioned in a previous post, and those that I haven't mentioned, Dog actually goes out and hunts down fugitives who don't check in, have bail revocations, what have you, with all the toughness in the world. But once the group have the guy, or girl, that they were after, they turn the corner and actually be all calm and actually talk to the guy on the way to the jail. Now, I don't know any bail bonds people, or how many that actually give a shit about the people that they arrest. But Dog and his crew, and those that they help tracking down and arresting the fugitives actually do care. They even help in any way that they could to help those that they arrest to make their lives better.

Okay, I guess it's only one show. I'm sorry it's so short. Hopefully my next topic will be better.

Valentine's Day

Yes, the dreaded day of love and mush is upon us. Now, I'm writing this piece as a single person and not through the possible eyes of someone in a romantic relationship. If you wanted that, then maybe I should have done this last year when I was actually in a relationship. But I'm not now, so you can just deal with it or leave.

Now, Valentine's Day, as we all know, is held on Feb. 14 and is celebrated by love and affection between intimate couples. Whether it's a romantic night out on the town, a card and chocolates (and flowers) , or even a nice bed for some "deep sea diving". Either way, Valentine's Day began in 500 AD by Pope Gelasius I, the day being named after one (or more) early Christian martyrs named Valentine. Though Pope Paul VI removed it from the Roman calender in 1969, the religious observance of the day is still allowed. It's only in the High Middle Ages does Valentine's Day become associated with romantic love in Geoffrey Chaucer's circle.

Now, I don't see how little heart shaped window stickers, baby's in diapers with angel-like wings and a bow that's suppose to make one fall in love with the first person they see, and a bow has anything to do with Christian martyrs, or even love for that matter. I honestly don't see what the big deal is to have one specific day set aside to show one's love to one that they care about when they should do it everyday. Granted, like I said, I'm single and I really don't care about Valentine's Day because of that. Then again, it's nice to hear 'I love you' on the 14 when one's dating, engaged, or even married. But one should say that everyday to their significant other because you don't know what's going to happen when you go off to work or whatever one does during the day. If you cannot express that kind of feeling and expression to another person that you truly care for, then perhaps you should rethink why you're with that person.

Today, Valentine's Day has become nothing more than a day where the card company's, flower shops, and sales of chocolates (plus intimate items) can make even that much more money. Yes, flowers and chocolates are nice with a card, but if you truly care for someone, tell them yourself, don't let a card do all the talking for you.

Yes, I know I've already reality shows, but I've got a show or two that I believe actually make a difference. Unlike the previously mentioned shows in a blog a couple weeks ago.

Trouble with People Against GLBT

Okay, I want to know what the big deal is about same gender couples not having the right to marry in all 50 states like heterosexual couples do. Those who are of the gay and lesbian sexual orientation are no more or less human than I or any other heterosexual person is. The people many of us have elected to the Senate or Congress seek to make sure that gays and lesbians, even quite possibly transgenders, cannot have the basic human rights that the rest of us have. Who are these Senators and Congress members to deem that gays and lesbians are to be denied the same things that heterosexual couples are granted everyday. For example, if a gay man wanted to visit his partner in the hospital, he would have to lie just to get past the lobby whereas if a woman wanted to visit her husband, she wouldn't be questioned once.

Not only do you have those in politics, but you've got these bible thumpers who preach that such things are either the works of the devil, a sickness, or some other reason that they can think of. Ever since ancient times, there have been some sort of percentage of people who are either gay, lesbian, bi, or transgender. Only in recent years has being transgender being able to put into practice.

There is absolutely nothing wrong with people being gay, lesbian, bi-sexual, or transgender. All you have is people that are so... up in arms against such people even being in existence, that they want to deny the GLBT community the basic human rights that are given to heterosexual people. If you are one of those who are completely against any who is in the GLBT community, it's time to get your head out of your ass and accept the fact that this community is here and it's here to stay.

Reality Shows

Just about every channel you tune into, you're bound to find some sort of reality show. From MTV's "Cribs" to E!'s show "Bridalplasty".

Now, I got a bone for "Bridalplasty". I want to know what some of these women think when they look in the mirror in the weeks/months leading up to their wedding. Granted a few were overweight and had lipo/tummy tugs, but the majority of them had breast implants, nose jobs, and who knows what else. And to no surprise, a number of the women had formed an alliance to oust the others to get further along into the competition. And in the end, only one woman out of the dozen or so that were there had all her plastic surgeries she wanted so she could be "perfect" for the wedding.

And these teen shows that's on VH1: "16 and Pregnant" really stands out. Yeah, it might show the hardships these teen mothers are going through, but it's also showcasing that girls at that age can go around fucking their boyfriends, get pregnant, and have their parents take care of her and her kid. Either way, shows like that should not be on tv showing that it's alright to go around and getting pregnant then expect to have your parents take care of you and their grandchild.

And the Bachelor/Bachelorette shows. Do we really need to sit in front of the tv once a week to watch a man/woman date two dozen or so members of the opposite gender just to find "The One"? It was bad enough when VH1 had the "Flavor of Love" and "Who Loves New York" (may not be correct title) shows. I seriously don't want to sit there for an hour and have a third of the show be make out scenes, even if the show goes out to commercial.

And what do these people who allow cameras into their houses for "Cribs"? Do they really want to make us feel all depressed about what we don't have? It's bad enough that "normal" people like us can barely afford what we do have. So stop showing off what you do have and let us get on with our barely functioning lives.

Today's television is bombarded with reality shows that show that it's fine to get pregnant at the age of 16, brides who compete just to get free plastic surgery, grown men and women who are dating 20 some odd people of the opposite gender at the same time, and that if you get enough money, you can get 20 cars, a large acre piece of land, and have a large house and a large amount of material wealth. It's time to go back to a time when the shows on tv when the shows were worthy of quality family time. Who cares what celebrity has in their bedroom? That 16 year old in high school should have had a talk with her parents about having sex with her boyfriend. Those men and women apparently need the help of a network and a television show to find the one that he/she wants to spend the rest of their life. Who wants to watch low self esteem women compete to get their ideal bodies for their weddings?

Nano Adventure

This year's Nano (National Novel Writing Month) has ended Tuesday and I "won" with 51,383 words. There were some times in the month of November that I thought that I wouldn't reach the goal of50,000 words. But I did, and I'm still not done with this year's novel. Now that Nano's done, I can shift my focus back to my usual routine of writing fanfics and slow down on writing the end of my 2010 novel and getting ready for the holiday.

Too Many Ideas, Too Little Time

Such is the problem of any writer. Having all these ideas come into your mind from all different muses, from tv and movies to books and music. And I'm no exception. With working on the second draft of my first book and soon to start the first draft of my third book in roughly two weeks for National Novel Writing Month (Nano), I also have a Kushiel's Legacy fanfiction on hold (waiting on my busy Beta reader), a Stargate SG-1 fanfiction that I had started and may scrap for another go, and a Star Wars slightly AU fanfiction. And too top it off, I'm also working on finish reading Half-Blood Prince and all the way through Chapter 25 of Deadly Hallows before November 19 when Part 1 is released in theaters.

It's not for the lack of doing (maybe it is a little on the procrastination side), but for the lack of time and doing other things. Sure, I have no life and I sit on the computer hours on end, but that's how I read most of the Harry Potter books, with the occasional trip to the flush. Plus it's the Halloween season and there are a couple of things I need to do for a costume, no matter how cheap, before the 31st. Sure, it's not one of those you'll find in the store or any sort of convention (ie. San Diego's Comi-Con or Detroit's own Comic Convention). The point is that it'll be home made and it'll do until I can actually get the time and material to actually do the costume I had planned for this year.
